Food can help you heal. It's helping me more than anything right now. (This coming from a person who has the love/hate relationship with food that people with gut issues often develop.)
When I have had flares in the past I have turned to steroids in addition to the pills I was taking and I would also turn to carbs and comfort foods. Not good. I would eat the junk and take the pills while TRYING to heal. It would take a long time and then once it was healed I would still be on pills and still be eating like junk.
This time it's completely different.
Since I shared with my followers that I have been flaring I have got a lot of messages from people asking me what I am eating through my flare. So, I thought I would share what I'm eating.
1) Shakeology 2-3 times per day (soothes my guts and gives me energy) I load up my shake with almond butter and almond milk-- almonds help fight inflammation. I also include a frozen banana.
2) Bone broth chicken soup loaded with inflammation fighting veggies like broccoli and peppers
3) Lean meat like venison, along with more inflammation fighting food such as garlic, onions, tomatoes, and olive oil.
4) As little grains as possible. The muffins pictured, I made from almond flour.
Now- I know not everyone can tolerate all if these foods- but they are what I have found help me have the most energy, feel less symptoms, and ultimately heal faster.
This weekend I strayed from my healing regime and I can feel it! I pay the price when I choose not to eat foods that heal!
Shakeology has been my "go to". I ate wheat this week and it has made me bloated and sick. Shakeology soothes the pain, reduces the bloat, and helps with the symptoms that the inflammation creates. It has honestly been my life saver during this flare and I don't know how I ever coped with flares without it!!!!
I'm not saying it's a cure all for flares- but I can feel it helping! If my flare doesn't subside with the diet restrictions I'm making- I still may do a round of steroids to get things under control. But this time I will not be eating junk food and taking high doses of other meds at the same time! Instead I will be eating healing foods so that I can continue to feel good after I am done with the steroids and decrease my chance of another flare in the future!
