Social media can be such a blessing but at the same time such a downfall. I was talking the other day with my mother-in-law about how it can be so hard not to get caught up in social media if we let ourselves. Feelings of judgment, jealousy, and envy are easy to come by.
At the same time social media has been a huge blessing in my life and has allowed me to build my coaching business and share my story and my faith with thousands of people.
With all the good that social media can bring, it's still hard not to get caught up in people not liking, commenting, or acknowledging our posts. It's hard to see what others are doing and not wish it was you.
Comparing ourselves to others will bring these feelings of doubt, anxiety, and resentment.
But I truly believe that is NOT what social media is about.
Yesterday I was reading this article. http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2002/04/the-other-prodigal?lang=eng
This quote in the picture I've shared really stuck out to me.
"Brothers and sisters, I testify that no one of us is less treasured or cherished of God than another. I testify that He loves each of us—insecurities, anxieties, self-image, and all. He doesn’t measure our talents or our looks; He doesn’t measure our professions or our possessions. He cheers on every runner, calling out that the race is against sin, not against each other. I know that if we will be faithful, there is a perfectly tailored robe of righteousness ready and waiting for everyone... May we encourage each other in our effort to win that prize is my earnest prayer, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
We need to CELEBRATE each other's success. We need to SUPPORT each other in our trials and triumphs.
What a blessing that we can do that through social media with just a click of a button or a quick type on a keyboard!!
Look at your friend's posts with new eyes today. Celebrate, uplift, and encourage those around you and be HAPPY for them!
God loves each of us. He doesn't judge us by comparing our Facebook status updates or who and how many friends we have on our list. He knows our hearts, our intentions, our desires, and our needs.
I'm not perfect by any means. But I know that when I approach social media with a positive mindset my life is fuller, happier, and I am more loving towards everyone around me.
I challenge you to use social media to spread love and encouragement to those around you. Look at others through the eyes of Christ, with compassion and charity. Let it be a blessing to you and not a burden.
