It's so easy to feel feelings of inadequacy as wives, as moms, and women.
Going to church every Sunday should be a rejuvenating, happy, spiritual experience...but with two toddlers-kids in general- or even WITHOUT kids (I've been there!) it can be an emotional roller coaster.
With kids it's all about Keeping them busy and quiet while trying to listen and help THEM feel the importance of being there, cleaning up spills and messes, wondering who's snack they just stole it who's toy they are playing with, worrying that you're bothering the family behind you and in front of you, and wondering how many woman are judging your parenting skills... Without kids it's hard too- for me it was feeling inadequate to BE a mother and wondering why I didn't have kids..wondering if I really was enough compared to all of the other strong women around me.
This Sunday it hit me--->>it's MY journey. And as long as I'm doing my BEST, that's all that matters. No-one else, and nothing else.
Let me back up a bit. Before I had this GRAND epiphany of sorts- a kind man came up to me and told me a story I'll never forget. He kindly said to me "I want you to know you're doing a wonderful job being a mother. I watched your family in sacrament meeting and the way you helped your boys get through the meeting was great and unknown that isn't easy for you. I have a son who has 2 boys who are the same age as yours- and him and his wife don't come to church anymore because they say it's too hard and not worth it because they don't get anything out of it. So thank you for bringing your kids to church and teaching them obedience."
That right there hit me to the core. It's my role, my job, to take not only myself- but my family through this life...to learn, to grow, to go through the hard stuff...it's OUR JOURNEY.
It's okay if church is hard- it's the principles of obedience and community that I'm trying to instill in my children's heart. It's okay if others stare, if someone is at a different point in THEIR journey...because I get to make the most of mine. And I choose to be HAPPY and feel BLESSED on my journey at every point in it.
