This was the summer before I got officially diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. I was at a summer basketball camp with my friends, excited for the upcoming school year and trying out for the Jr. high basketball team. (Check out the CD's and hacky sack action!!) I was full of life and adventure, always up for a good laugh and a fun time.
During the camp I started to flare really bad. My energy was completely zapped and I knew something was wrong. I told my mom and a series of tests followed and ultimately ended with me being diagnosed with Crohn's Disease that following winter.
After that my life changed forever. I became a lot more closed off. I didn't play basketball anymore. Social activities, sports, school, they all became things I dreaded because or my Crohn's and not knowing how I would feel, where the next bathroom was....it was a hard thing to cope with as a teenager. It forever changed me.
This November I am running a half marathon to raise awareness for Crohn's Disease through the CCFA Team Challenge. I am raising money for this race to help the CCFA FIND A CURE FOR CROHNS and COLITIS.
Awareness and research can be VERY powerful things. And that's why I will continue to share my story and pray that those who need to hear it will and that my fundraising will make even a small difference in finding a cure!!
