MEAL PLAN UNIVERSITY: LESSON 7- Sticking to the Plan
********************************************************** Confession: I’ve been a chronic New Year's Resolution breaker for most of my adult life. Just me? No? When you set a goal, have a dream, make a plan- how do you make sure you do what it takes to make it happen? How do you stick to it and create do what you set out to do in the first place? Heres some tips that have helped me go from “chronic resolution breaker” to “goal crusher”. POST REMINDERS: Whether it’s on your bathroom mirror, your fridge, your steering wheel- write your goal, print a picture, post your meal plan- have a VISIBLE reminder of what you’re trying to accomplish. If I keep my meal plan tucked away in a binder I never follow it. When I post it on my fridge- BAM, it’s there every time i’m in the kitchen and I’m thinking about how I’m going to make it happen. SET ALARMS: Set daily, weekly, and monthly reminders to help you stay on track. The calendar in your smartphone will allow you to set recurring reminders. Have a certain day each week you want to meal prep? Set the reminder. Have a certain day each month you want to plan out the meals for the following month? Set the reminder. Do you need help remembering WHEN to eat or when to put something into the oven/crockpot etc? Set the reminder. PLAN-DO-REVIEW: If you try something once and if fails, then should you just throw your hands in the air and quit? Say “it’s not for me!”?? NO! One of the most powerful principles I’ve learned it the “Plan, Do, Review” process. Make a plan, try it out, review the plan taking note of what worked and what didn’t work- then start over again! PLAN, DO, REVIEW! Your meal planning and prep aren’t going to work perfectly the first time or even the 100th time! It’s a learning process and something that will grow and change just like anything in life. You have to be adaptable and willing to continue the process even through the failed attempts. GET A SUPPORT SYSTEM: This should be #1 because it really is my #1 piece of advice and system that works for me. I became a health and fitness coach not just to help others- but to help keep myself accountable! I run online support groups each month for my clients where I share my meal plans, workouts and more. My clients are my support system and I am there’s! They check in daily with their fitness and nutrition progress, we share meal plans and recipes and help keep each other going! Get a support system to keep you accountable and motivated to stick to your plan. Need a support system? Ask me how you can be a part of mine! Assignment: Use your journal to list how you will continue to implement meal planning into your routine and make it a part of your life. Put a reminder somewhere to help you stick to it and stay organized.
