I used to hate Facebook and Instagram. I would get on, scroll my newsfeed and see that all of my friends were having babies (when I couldn't), getting a new job (when I was still in school), building a new house(when that was out of the question for us), running a marathon (when I was to sick to leave the house) and just living these lives I so badly thought I wanted.
But, I mean, that's what social media is for, right? Seeing what everyone else is doing?? Sharing your life?? Happy and sad times??
But I was comparing, I was judging, I wasn't being kind or loving towards others or myself. Not healthy for me or anyone else.
So what changed?
I was reading an article this week that made me think of my shift in mindset regarding social media--it talked about the importance of loving our fellow men on our journey in this earth. In the article President Thomas S. Monson states, "We cannot truly love God if we do not love our fellow travelers on this mortal journey."
This is exactly what I have tried to teach myself to do, and what I work on daily. We have to look at others with kindness and love- not judgment or resentment. We are in this life together! We are brothers and sisters, children of God.
"Dale Carnegie, a well-known American author and lecturer, believed that each person has within himself or herself the 'power to increase the sum total of [the] world’s happiness … by giving a few words of sincere appreciation to someone who is lonely or discouraged.' Said he, 'Perhaps you will forget tomorrow the kind words you say today, but the recipient may cherish them over a lifetime."
When we act with kindness towards others we not only bring light into our lives and avoid the ugly feelings of resentment- we also feed others' spirits with happy, kind words that could be LIFE CHANGING for them- without us even realizing it.
I challenge you (and myself) to look to others with love and kindness and treat them as your fellow travelers in this life! We all need love and acceptance, we all want to hear a kind word (or get a 'like' or a friendly 'comment')!!
Overtime I have learned to took at my newsfeed with love. And I get to re-learn DAILY, to lead with love and kindness in everything I do. I pray that you can do the same. ❤️
Spread love and kindness on social media, always. Be that Ray of sunshine for someone today!! ☀️
